When Will Jesus Come?

“The Lord isn’t really being slow about His promise, as some people think. No, He is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” 2 Peter 3:9

As the world grows darker and darker the yearning for Jesus to return grows stronger. Some might pray, “Jesus don’t delay any longer. Return and bring us home.” Looking forward to the second coming of Christ is biblical and good, but it’s easy to become weary in the waiting because God’s timing is not our timing. As each day continues on like the one before it, it’s tempting to believe God is slow in keeping His promise to return and some might lose hope and think, “Jesus is never coming.”

In the Bible, Peter penned a letter to the church that is relevant to us today. The body of believers longed for deliverance from the persecution they faced. They too wanted Jesus to come and like us, they didn’t understand God’s timetable. Instead, they mistook patience for slowness. What seemed like sluggishness from God was (and still is) God’s kindness and mercy giving people time to repent.

At just the right time, Jesus will come. Until then, put your full confidence in Him. Live your life in such a way that you are ready for His arrival today. Make the most of your time by sharing the Good News with others and by praying for God to reveal Himself to your unsaved loved ones. Remember, God is patient but His is also faithful and one day Jesus’s promise to return will be fulfilled.
