A TEACHABLE SPIRIT
“He leads the humble in what is right, teaching them His way.” Psalm 25:9
DO YOU HAVE A TEACHABLE SPIRIT? Back in my corporate career days my manager used to say that one of the most important qualities when hiring a new employee is a person who is willing to learn. It can be very difficult to have a new employee who refuses to change or grow or who thinks she knows it all. But a teachable spirit isn’t just for the workplace. It’s a positioning of the heart for everyday life.
There are many reasons why a person might be unwilling to learn. One reason is fear. Fear can block your ability to listen, to learn and to hear God’s voice. Learning new things can be scary because the fear of failure or wondering if “the new thing” is too hard. It might reveal that you were doing something the wrong way or even worse it could expose faulty thinking or beliefs about yourself, others or God.
Learning is a necessary part of the Christian life. God is constantly calling His children to have a humble heart ready to learn and grow in the knowledge of His Word. It can be very uncomfortable to get outside the comfort zone to learn a new thing, but God never called us to comfort…He called us to become more and more like Him.
