“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”
Psalm 46:1
In times of trouble, where do you run? Some turn the world hoping its temporary solutions will last. Some go to other people who are just as troubled. Others withdraw into seclusion and suffer in silence. However, when life is falling apart, that is the time to run to God. Â The Bible says, “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble” (Psalm 46:1). The word refuge means high tower, defender, or safe place. He is our fortress (Psalm 46:7), and in Him, we find divine shelter and protection. He is our rock (Psalm 18:2), and when we hide in “The Rock,” we are as strong as He is.
Running to God in times of trouble is the place to go, but God doesn’t shelter us so we can escape life’s problems. Instead, within His sheltering, God is strengthening and equipping us to go back out and face them. When the world is collapsing or our personal lives are crumbling, we can confront problems and difficulties head-on because God is right here, right now, help. We need not fear facing times of trouble because the same God who created the world is ready to help us today.
Running to God is as simple as praying at the first sight of trouble, opening a journal and pouring your heart out to God, or turning to His Word for encouragement and strength. Next time trouble comes (and it will), resist running to anything or anyone but God. He alone is your refuge and strength. He is always ready to help.

Where do you run in times of trouble? Is God the first or last place you seek refuge and strength?
