I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” Psalm 16:8 (NLT)
Do you really know that God is with you? I mean, really know it? As Christian women who love God, we often declare our faith with confidence. “God is with me,” we say. “I’m never alone.” We post it on social media, share it in Bible study, and nod in agreement when we hear it preached. But do we really believe it? Does our daily life testify to this truth, or do our reactions in hard times reveal something different?
The evidence of our faith is most evident in difficult seasons. Are we shaken when trials come, or do we stand firm because we know—really know—that He is right beside us?
Notice how David worded this verse. Twice, he uses the personal pronoun “I,” suggesting intimate, personal knowledge of God’s presence. He declares, “I know” and “I will not be shaken” as if he’s speaking truth over his own heart, coaching his emotions to align with his faith.
This wasn’t theoretical knowledge for David—it was experiential certainty. The word “know” means to perceive with certainty and understand clearly. God wasn’t a stranger to David. He knew God personally, and this intimate knowledge led to an unshakeable confidence.
When David says he “will not be shaken,” he’s describing security that comes from God’s constant presence. This isn’t an exemption from life’s problems. Instead, it’s assurance that when God is at our right hand, we can stand firm in any circumstance, even when it feels crushing.
Here’s where we often struggle: It’s easy to claim we know God is with us when life is smooth. The real test comes when trouble arrives. Suddenly, anxiety steals our peace. Fear grips our hearts. Discouragement clouds our vision.
In these moments, our wavering resolve reveals what we truly believe about God’s presence.
This is when we need to do what David did—speak this truth confidently over ourselves. Picture him during his darkest moments, declaring with determination: “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.”
Sometimes we need to preach to ourselves, reminding our hearts of this essential truth: God is with us. He is at our right hand, and because of that reality, we cannot be shaken.
The next time anxiety, fear, or discouragement tries to convince you that you’re alone, speak Psalm 16:8 aloud with confidence. Let David’s declaration become your declaration. This isn’t wishful thinking—it’s biblical truth. God has positioned Himself right beside you, ready to steady you and give you strength to stand firm.

Think about a current situation that’s causing you to feel shaken. How might your response change if you genuinely believed—in the depths of your heart—that God is right beside you in this very moment?
