“The LORD’s promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.” Psalm 12:6 (NLT)
Have you ever watched a silversmith at work? The precious metal must be heated to extreme temperatures, over 1,700 degrees, to separate the pure silver from every trace of impurity. The process is repeated until what remains is flawless, without contamination or impurity. This powerful imagery is precisely what David uses to describe God’s promises to us.
In Psalm 12, David expresses feelings of being overwhelmed. It seems like liars and deceivers are winning while godly people are disappearing. Sound familiar? In our world today, it’s easy to feel like those who lie, cheat, and manipulate their way to the top are getting ahead, while we who try to live with integrity seem to struggle. We watch the news, scroll through social media, or experience betrayal in our own lives, and we wonder: “Where is God in all this? Can I really trust His promises when everything around me seems to prove otherwise?”
But here’s what David realized: God’s promises are entirely different from human words. While the lies surrounding us are contaminated with selfish motives, half-truths, and broken commitments, God’s promises have been refined through the fire of His perfect character. There is absolutely no impurity in them because there is no moral imperfection in Him. They are pure as silver promises.
Sister, when doubt creeps in and you’re tempted to believe that deceivers will ultimately succeed while you suffer, remember there is nothing false in God. His promises aren’t shaky or uncertain. They are pure, refined, and tested, without any contamination of doubt, deception, or failure.
You don’t need to fear when dishonesty seems to be advancing because its foundation is unstable. Eventually, that shaky ground will crumble. But you? You who trust in God and lean on His promises will still be standing because you’re standing on the solid foundation of the Almighty God, who always speaks truth and whose power is absolute and forever.
This week, choose one of God’s promises that speaks directly to a situation you’re facing. Then, write it on a card and place it somewhere you’ll see it daily. Each time you read it, remind yourself: “This promise is pure as silver. I can count on it completely.”
